heritage

i imagine this will only be funny for those of you who know my oldest son's father. sperm donor, as i used to call him. as we grow up however, he has become more of a "Rob". funny how things change as you grow. anywho, that's beside the point.

in leiu of his heritage project due this quarter, i suggested lil' man call his Uncle "Rob" in order to know what his full heritage is since daddy is not synonymous with heritage in this life. bummer. thank goodness for Heaven where this will not be so ;)

so he calls. as soon as the phone is answered he begins the barrage of questions. i am guessing this simply because it took 2 seconds to dial and 4 seconds later, lil' man was prompting questions like a pro boxer gettin' that first "ol' 1,2" out there.

"are you Indian, Uncle Rob?"

hmm, this gives my mind pause. is he Indian? we never really had this conversation. ever. but then i didn't imagine he would be a part of my life for the rest of my life. come to find out, he is part Indian. small part. that explains the feather. onward and forward.

"are you German, Uncle Rob?"

ha! my heritage. kudos kid, he wants to know if Uncle Rob is anything like me. he's not. somehow i think i could have told him that. his last question is what got me laughing...

"well, you must be Filipino then, yeah?"

lmbo. now that is a fabulous question. Hawaiian twinge with the "yeah" and all. i wonder how he answered that one? Filipino was my first guess, too... okay. not really. but then i was pretty naive back then. that could have been the problem.

kudos, lil' man. kudos. at least people can't say you're stating the obvious.
