say what?!

Bubsy and i ventured to the mall today. sadly, not for any other reason than to wait for our dear friend to give us a ride home after leaving my fault-ridden car at the local automotive shop. *tear*

while we were there waiting, we decided to get lunch. as with any other day, Bubs' choice of food was unlike my own. meaning simply that he got to sit and wait, munching on his burritos while i stood behind him in a line to order my own grub. as i watched through line i was pleased to see that he was happily chatting with the older couple next to him. no doubt sharing family atrocities and if we should have any, where our meager treasure cache was hidden (nothing is sacred with a 4-year-old). i smiled at this, it is so nice seeing him be sociable.

after finally receiving my food, i hurried over (the measly 10 feet for all of those of you who think i left my kid across country at the mercy of mob-like strangers with relatives who know more about the dead than the living...) to where they were sitting. i wish i had gone slower, i might have had time to haul the rock in with me that i wanted to curl up and die under...

because two seconds later, these are the sentiments that graced my ears.

"mommy! somebody said stupid jacka**!"

although stunned, i replied "well, that wasn't very nice, was it?"

"no, mommy. they said stupid jacka** for freaking out like that"

"okay, Bubsy, i got that part. maybe we shouldn't be repeating it then since it isn't nice, right?" (at this point, mouths agape wouldn't even begin to describe the look on that sweet, elderly couples' faces)

"oh, okay" he says "you mean we shouldn't be saying st...". you know how it goes. i love children. i really do ;)
