as a little child

i absolutely love the prayers of little children. there is nothing better in this entire world than a child putting implicit trust in a God whom they cannot see, hear or touch. the put those requests out there KNOWing that not only will it be heard, but be taken to the CEO of heaven, stamped important and returned with the speed of angels' wings. they have got it all figured out.

i wish i was so simple.

these prayers take on even greater meaning when it is your very own child. you know them so well, and yet can learn so much by listening to a simple prayer. take for example, tonight, prayer time with Bubsy.

he is adamant nowadays about praying on his own. with sweet clarity he begins his approach to the Most High. it almost brings tears to my eyes to hear the sincerity in that small voice. "Dear Jesus, thank you for this day, thank you for the pizza i had at breakfast (every meal is breakfast). any prayer requests mommy?"

i inject a few of my own. daddy's on the boat, keep him safe. bless my boys and give them sweet dreams. help them to be the soldiers for Jesus that he longs for. my mind is so filled with "life" that i forget to remember the little things. he prompts me for sunshine. "oh yes, thank you Jesus for the sunshine".

he moves on so smoothly as if he were face-to-face. in many ways i am positive he is sometimes. children's innocence allows them to "see" so much more than the clouded minds of reality-laden adults. anywho, he presses on.

"thank you Jesus for hearing our prayers. Amen... oh! i have one more question. can i ask another question Jesus? yes, okay, i have one more question. please bless the airplane as it takes us to Mama & Papa's house. help Mama & Papa get ready to pick us up. bless me as i pack. amen."

i love children. he has been planning this "trip" for the past year ever since we moved out here. he's going home. he knows it. Jesus knows it. he just keeps it prepped and ready for the day Jesus says he gets to fly to Mama & Papa's. simple trust.

as i was hearing this not only was it amusing, but it made me wonder about that "great trip" that Jesus has planned for us to heaven. do we pray with simple trust for Jesus to bless the "airplane" and to help us "pack" for the occassion? or are we planning to cross that bridge when it comes? i want to be like Bubs, i want to pray every day to be ready for the greatest trip of my life. God is always ready for me. i want that simple trust.

may your day be blessed with the prayer of a little one. they have a way of bringing sense to the chaos we call life.
